On 22 November, the Council received notification that a retaining wall on the north bank of the River Derwent near to Calva Bridge had collapsed into the river.

The former railway land is owned by Allerdale Borough Council and we responded immediately.

We have secured the area with temporary fencing and officers have been on site assessing the situation. We will now be liaising with the Environment Agency and other partners on the next steps.

For safety reasons, we ask that people avoid the area while these assessments are made, and apologise for any inconvenience.
