Allerdale Borough Council is encouraging everyone to have their say on the future governance of Workington Town Council.

The borough council is carrying out a consultation after it was asked by the town council in October 2017 to review both the number of councillors and the boundaries for its town council wards.

Workington Town Council currently has 30 councillors across 11 wards. The ratio of voters for each councillor ranges from 212 in Iredale Ward to 1,444 in St Joseph’s.

The consultation also includes questions regarding the future of the neighbouring parish of Winscales. Winscales Parish Council has asked Allerdale to carry out a complete review of the parish including the possibility that the Winscales parish area be subsumed within the Workington Town Council area. 

Anyone wishing to make their comments known can go online  and follow the links to the consultation hub website. Hard copy documents are available at public locations around the town, or they can be requested from the electoral services team at Allerdale Borough Council by calling 01900 702 550.

The review is being carried out by a working party of the 15 Allerdale Borough Council councillors who represent Workington. This is the first stage of consultation which lasts until 31 May 2018. Once the responses are collated, the working group will devise some recommendations which will form the second stage of the consultation.
It is hoped the final recommendations will be voted on by Allerdale Borough Council in October 2018.
