Crunch Household Waste Collection

Coronavirus - update on the crunch service

Allerdale Borough Council is suspending its popular 'crunch' waste service due to the coronavirus outbreak. The decision has been taken in light of government advice to avoid close social contact where possible and make only essential journeys. It also means statutory waste services can be continue to be provided with fewer waste crew staff if they are affected by the need to self-isolate or look after children or other family members. The suspension is temporary and new dates will be announced at a later date. We apologise for any inconvenience.

We provide a free service for the collection of additional household waste in Cockermouth, Aspatria and Silloth which currently don't have Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Guidance for using the crunch service

The area used for the crunch will be cordoned off allowing  access to the refuse vehicle and ensuring a steady flow of vehicles in and out of the site. This will save you time as well as making the service as safe as possible.

Our trained crew will be onsite to help you so for safety reasons please don't attempt to place items in the wagon yourself.

Please don't dump items at the crunch locations before the vehicle arrives as this will be classed as fly tipping. We ask that residents who arrive early with waste are patient and wait for the collection vehicle.
