Standards Committee

The Council’s Standards Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct by Councillors and assists them in observing the Code of Conduct.

The code seeks to ensure that Councillors are open, fair and transparent in the conduct of their official duties, that they respect others in the conduct of their public lives and ensure that any decision making on behalf of their Council is properly carried out.

Standards Committee make-up

The committee is made up of seven Borough Councillors and three non-voting Parish / Town Councillor co-optees. There is also an Independent Person who will be consulted at various stages in the process and may be invited to attend meetings.

Individual Parish Clerks should be contacted regarding the codes of conduct for parish councillors.

How to make a complaint about a councillor

If you think that a Borough councillor, parish councillor, Co-opted Member or former councillor has breached the Code of Conduct, you should send your complaint to the Council using the complaint form.

The complaint should set out the name of the councillor, the name of the relevant Council, the facts as you see them and the details of the alleged breach of the Code of Conduct.

You should try to provide as much evidence as possible with your complaint.

Please email the Monitoring Officer with details of your complaint.

Don't worry though, your bins will be emptied as normal, and you'll still be able to speak to the same team about any enquiries to do with things like council tax, benefits, planning or any other service.
