Community Housing Fund

What is the Community Housing Fund?

Funding is available from Allerdale Borough Council to support affordable community housing projects aimed at those finding it difficult to buy a home, such as first-time buyers. The new Government grant has been launched with a number of local authorities aims to tackle the issue of high levels of second homeownership in their communities.

The Community Housing Fund covers various capital and revenue costs for projects:

  • Capital costs are one-off costs for example associated with building works, or building components, land or equipment that become capital assets.
  • Revenue costs relate to ongoing running costs which may be items of expenditure such as heat, light, rent, wages or insurance.

Who can apply?

Grants can be used to support community-led, non-profit making organisations with social aims to deliver affordable community housing. This includes Community Land Trusts, groups interested in self-build or custom build and community groups interested in delivering affordable housing. The fund will focus on areas in Allerdale where the percentage of second homes are highest.

Full details of the grant, including eligibility criteria and examples of projects that may receive support can be found in the information and guidance document, which can be downloaded below:
