Housing Studies

To ensure our housing strategies are effective we carry out various studies to gain understanding of the demand for housing and the availability of suitable homes for the people of Allerdale.

For more information about these housing studies, please contact housing.developmentteam@cumberland.gov.uk .

2022 Local Housing Needs Assessment

The Local Housing Needs Assessment provides the latest available evidence to help shape the future planning and housing policies of the council. This research gives an up-to-date analysis of the social, economic, housing and demographic situation in the area.

2015 Stock Condition Survey

Local authorities have an obligation under the Housing Act 2004 to keep housing conditions in their area under review for all tenures, including private sector housing. To meet this obligation, the Council commissioned Opinion Research Services (ORS) to carry out a survey on a random sample of private sector housing within the borough. The data collected provided a significant evidence base to inform the Councils Housing Strategy.

Strategic Housing Market Assessment

The six district councils in Cumbria worked with Cumbria County Council to produce Strategic Housing Market Assessments (SHMA). These bring together evidence on demographics, housing need and economic development to produce an assessment of housing need in Allerdale until 2029.
