Over the Christmas and New Year period there will be some changes to services run by Allerdale Borough Council.

Council offices and customer services

Customer Services will close at 12pm on 23 December and reopen on 9am on 3 January. During this time no appointments will be available. The council’s customer contact phone line will also be closed during this period.

Residents can continue to report issues such as dog fouling, littering, and fly-tipping through the council's website and the 'myAllerdale' mobile app.

People can still pay for things online. Payments can also be made by using the automated telephone payment line by calling 0303 123 1702and selecting the appropriate option.

Refuse collections for the week commencing 19 December are unaffected and bins should be placed outside on the morning of collection on the normal days.

There will be no refuse collections on Monday 26 December. All collections commencing the week beginning Monday 26 December will be completed one day later than normal. Therefore, if your waste was due to be collected on Monday 26 December, these collections will take place on Tuesday 27 December. If your refuse was due to be collected on Friday 30 December, these collections will take place on Saturday 31 December.

There will be no collections on Monday 2 January. As a result, all collections in the week beginning Monday 2 January will take place one day later than normal. Therefore, if your refuse was due to be collected on Monday 2 January, these will take place on Tuesday 3 January. If your refuse was due to be collected on Friday 6 January, these collections will take place on Saturday 7 January.

Collections will return to normal from week commencing Monday 9 January.

Other recycling facilities

The council’s recycling bring sites will remain open throughout the Christmas and New Year period with regular collections of waste taking place. Information on their locations can be found here.

Residents are asked to place the correct recycling material in the bins provided. Residents are also asked not to leave bags of rubbish by the bins, as this is classed as fly-tipping.

To ensure the maximum use of space, residents are asked to flatten any boxes before putting them in the paper and cardboard bins.

Cumbria County Council’s household waste recycling centres are also open throughout the festive period. More information is available on the Cumbria County Council website.

Homelessness

If anyone finds themselves homeless over the Christmas period, they should call 0303 123 1702for the out of hours service and speak to a homelessness officer.

If in the run-up to Christmas anyone believes they may be homeless soon, they should contact the council as soon as possible on 01900 702660, so that the homelessness team can assess their situation and try to prevent them becoming homeless.

The council also encourages people to speak to the council's customer service team if they are struggling financially to see if there is any help that can be provided.
