Things will be hotting up in the town's Washington Square shopping centre with the return of the popular Chilli Fest to Washington Square from 11am. Centred around the Hub, shoppers will be able to sample chilli-based recipes, as well as enjoy the music, entertainment and kids' activities. 

For those hardened chilli-lovers, why get yourself into a team and pit yourself against other competitors in a tasting competition. To enter contact Allerdale Borough Council's town centre manager Toni Magean on 0303 123 1702. All competitors must be over 16 years old.

From 1pm Derwent Park plays host to Reboot Tribute Festival which promises a full day of non-stop music, great food and drinks, cocktails as well as free activities for the kids.Bands include the Clone Roses, Mojo Rising, Soundwave Cumbria and the UK's number one Tribute to the Happy Mondays, the Appy Mundays. It is also a special day at the multi-storey car park, with free parking for all users from 7am-7pm to help boost business and promote the benefits of using the car park. Situated right in the centre of town off Central Way, the car park offers direct access to the shopping centre. As a pay-on-exit car park, it means unlike in the town's other pay-and-display car parks, shoppers and visitors don't need to rush back to their vehicles when their time starts to run out. 

Bill Jefferson, Executive member with responsibility for events, said: "It's great to see these two events in Workington which is are just some of the many festivals which we support. I'd encourage everyone to go along and join the fun this weekend. The weather looks like it will be as hot as the chillies!" 

Michael Heaslip, Executive member with responsibility for the Council's car parks, added: "We are committed to doing what we can to help boost business and trade in our towns. I'm really pleased to be able to provide free parking at the multi-storey car park as not only will it show-off the benefits of using it, but will also mean more people can stay for longer and enjoy the fun."
 
Both festivals are funded by Allerdale Borough Council as part of its commitment to make town centres more sustainable and attractive through events. The Council's partner are Maryport Blues Festival Ltd for Chilli Fest and CN Events for Reboot.
