Businesspeople in Maryport are being invited to come together and form a new chamber of trade-style group.

Allerdale Borough Council’s second business forum will take place in the town on Wednesday, December 18 following on from a successful first event last month which saw more than 60 local people attend.

At the last meeting the idea of forming a business group was discussed and now it is hoped that plan can be taken forward by discussing what that organisation might look like and which people would want to be directly involved. During the meeting a workshop exercise will take place to explore people’s ideas develop a plan.

If the business group gets off the ground it is hoped that not only will it be a place for Maryport-based firms to come together and share ideas, but will also act as a vehicle for businesses to give input into Allerdale’s ambitious Maryport Regeneration programme.

There will also be an opportunity for businesses to find out more about the regeneration plans and the consultation process.

Toni Magean, the council’s business engagement manager, said:

“It would be great to see and hear from as many businesspeople as possible about how they want to form a new business group. It’s vitally important that local firms have a strong and united voice on a range of issues and it would be great to have that voice involved in the regeneration plans.”

The forum will start at 6pm and will be hosted at the Wave Centre, Irish Street. The event is free to attend and is open to all traders and businesspeople in Maryport.
