Councillor Mike Johnson is the new deputy leader of Allerdale Borough Council.

He takes over from Mark Jenkinson, who was elected MP for Workington at last week’s General Election.

Mike, who represents Allhallows and Waverton, is also the Executive member for Corporate Resources (Finance and Property). He is a member of the Allerdale Conservatives group.

Mike takes over the deputy leader position with immediate effect.

Leader of the council, Marion Fitzgerald said:

"As Mark Jenkinson has been rather busy in recent weeks, Cllr Johnson gave up a lot of his time to help out.

"I have known Mike for several years. He is a very able councillor and I look forward to working with him in the future.

"Mike is already an important part of our Executive team."

Cllr Johnson said:

"I was delighted to accept the role of deputy leader and will do my upmost to help the council meet its objectives over the next few years. It is an exciting, yet challenging, time for this authority and we have ambitious plans to help transform the services we offer our communities, while at the same time making sure we are are a financially secure council.

"I'd also like to place on record my thanks to Mark Jenkinson for his time and effort in carrying out this role and look forward to building on the work he has already done."
