Enforcement officers at Allerdale Borough Council have fined a local business owner £700 for flytipping and not handling and disposing of their waste correctly.

The owner of the business based in Maryport was given a fixed penalty notice of £400 for flytipping in a back lane in the town on Wednesday 15 May.

As it was also clear that the business did not have the appropriate waste contract in place, it was given a fixed penalty notice of £300 for failure to provide a duty of care waste transfer note. Every company has a responsibility to safely contain and legally dispose of any waste produced from their business.

Michael Heaslip, Executive Member with responsibility for Environmental Quality, said: “I’d like to firstly congratulate the enforcement team for taking this action. We have a zero-tolerance attitude to fly-tipping and will take action if we can prove who is responsible. Every business has a responsibility to dispose of their waste correctly, otherwise they face a hefty fine.”
