Andrew Seekings has been appointed as Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service at Allerdale Borough Council on a permanent basis following a meeting of the full council last night (22nd July).

Andrew has been carrying out role on an interim basis since December 11, 2019 and his appointment follows a recommendation made by the Chief Officer’s Employment Panel, a cross-party group of councillors, earlier this month.

The report from the panel was moved by Cllr Marion Fitzgerald, who said:

“I personally have no hesitation in asking council to support the recommendation from the Chief Officer’s Employment panel to confirm Andrew’s permanent employment as Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service because he has proven himself to be a hugely capable lead officer in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Andrew said:

“I am incredibly proud of being offered the post, I only wish my mum and dad were still around to see it and celebrate with me and my family. Over the past seven years I have worked with amazing colleagues and inspirational leaders who want the best for their communities and I will now lead the officers to deliver the Council’s ambitious plans.

“Covid-19 has meant that we have had to adapt to new ways of working, support business and protect our most vulnerable residents. This is at the heart of good local government and I focus all my energy on improving lives and build on Allerdale’s reputation as the best place to live, invest and visit.”

He joined the Council in May 2013 having previously worked at Sunderland City Council and in the voluntary sector. As well as his role as Chief Executive, Andrew is currently the Council's Electoral Registration and Returning Officer.
