This summer, Allerdale Borough Council held a competition inviting people to tell us about and potentially win their ‘Perfect Day’ in Allerdale.

The team at Visit Allerdale – part of Allerdale Borough Council – partnered up with the competition sponsors Alp Kit, Newlands Adventure, Lakes Escapes, Leathes Head Hotel, Tithe Barn, The Bank of Silloth, and Solway Cycle Hire to provide a fantastic prize for one lucky person and their friend.

The submission process for this year’s Perfect Day in Allerdale competition differed from that of the previous two years. To enter the competition, entrants were asked to post a piece of creative writing about Allerdale, an image, a video, or their own artwork of their favourite place in Allerdale on Facebook or Instagram. The entry could have been a piece of creative writing about Keswick, an image of Cockermouth Main Street, a time-lapse video of Silloth Green, or a piece of artwork featuring Maryport harbour.

The deadline of 5 September for competition entries has now passed and the team at Visit Allerdale have carefully reviewed this year’s entries to select a winner. Having reviewed a series of fantastic artwork, creative writing, videos and images, the team have selected this year’s winner and four lucky runners up.

This year’s winner of the Perfect Day competition is Kathy George. Kathy’s winning entry was a reel she posted on Instagram which detailed all of her favourite places in Allerdale accompanied by the well-known Fairground Attraction song, ‘Perfect’.

Kathy’s ‘Perfect Day’ will be filmed by professionals and a short film will be posted on www.visitallerdale.co.uk to inspire others and showcase what the area has to offer visitors.

This year’s runners up and the prizes they won are as follows:

  • Dawn van Mourik Blount – two nights stay in a family pod at Castlerigg Hall
  • Hayley Grice – Weekend stay for two people are Ferrier Apartments Silloth
  • Hannah Fairman - £50 Explore the Lakes voucher
  • Sarah Ann Curran – Intro session into Wild Swimming for 2 people with Always Swimming Wild

Reflecting on the success of this year’s competition, Councillor Anthony Markley, the Council’s tourism portfolio holder, said: “This year’s ‘Perfect Day’ competition has been a great success, with entries coming in from all over the country. We’ve ran this competition for three years now, and we are always met with such a great response.

"It’s fantastic to see how people have been enjoying Allerdale over the summer, capturing excellent videos, taking stunning images and creating brilliant pieces of creative writing for their competition entries.

“I’d like to thank this year’s sponsors for their generous contributions to this year’s prizes. I look forward to watching this year’s competition winner enjoying her well-deserved ‘Perfect Day’, taking in the exciting attractions, great restaurants, and stunning scenery that Allerdale has to offer”.
