Maryport Town Hall is to host community drop-in sessions for Cumbria Police.

A ‘Mobile Police Desk’ will be held at the Senhouse Street building on Thursday 2 March from 10am to 11am. It’s the first time the Town Hall has been used for these events, widening its community activities.

Members of the public are invited to come along and meet the local officers, raise any issues they may have, and get advice on crime prevention matters too.

The Town Hall is owned and managed by Allerdale Borough Council which has just renovated the historic building. The transformation has improved its disabled access and means rooms in the building are available for hire by community groups. The £200,000 project is part of Maryport’s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) initiative, which is funded by Historic England, Allerdale Borough Council and Sellafield Ltd.

PC Sam Steele is leading the new initiative. He said: “We’re really pleased to partner with Allerdale Borough Council to open up our Mobile Police Desk in Maryport Town Hall.

“These proactive policing sessions are all about encouraging people to get involved in crime prevention for themselves and their neighbourhoods. Everyone is welcome to come and meet us.”

Councillor Mike Johnson, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, added: “This is why improving Maryport Town Hall was so important. Not only have we restored an historic building – there is now the space and accessibility to work with our community partners and offer services like this in the heart of the town for everyone who lives and works here.

“I look forward to seeing more initiatives like this in the future.”
