This week is Recycle Week, and Allerdale Borough Council has been urging local residents to use the recycling services that are available across the borough.

Recycle Week runs from 24th-30th September and is an annual national campaign organised by WRAP, under the ‘Recycle Now’ brand, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and help change people’s behaviours when it comes to recycling.

The Council provides a full recycling service to most residents which includes plastic, glass, metal, paper and card. Since April 2018, we’ve collected over 3,500 tonnes of recycling, which is about 450 times as heavy as a Tyrannosaurus rex, 30 times as heavy as a blue whale or the equivalent of over one million Chihuahuas! But there’s still more we can all do.

As part of Recycle Week, an additional purple recycling sack has been delivered to most households in Allerdale with this week’s collections to ensure everyone can use the service and help encourage it. If residents are unsure of what can and can’t be recycled in the different bins, there is information on the Council’s website .

The Council is also asking residents for their thoughts and ideas on how to recycle. If you want to get in touch, Tweet the Council @allerdale or message them through Facebook.

There are also a number of Household Waste Recycling Centres, run by Cumbria County Council, that are free for householders to use in Allerdale. For full details on location, opening times and what waste can be accepted, please visit their website .
