Community Right to Bid

What is the Right to Bid?

The Community Right to Bid, which is also known as Assets of Community Value.  The right gives eligible community groups the opportunity to identify and nominate assets that are of value to the local community and nominate these for inclusion on a list of assets of community value maintained by the Council.

If an asset on the list comes up for sale, eligible community groups will have up to six months in which to make a bid to buy it.  However, these new provisions do not restrict in any way decisions by the owner of the asset such as who they can sell their property to, or at what price, and a community interest group does not have a right of first refusal to buy the asset.

A community could use this right to nominate a local asset like a village hall, a community centre, a playing field, a library or a children’s centre.  The right covers private as well as public assets.
