The aim of open data in the public sector is to increase transparency across Government and allow anyone, whether businesses, individuals, charities and community groups to re-use public sector information. The Government is leading the way by publishing a large amount of data from many public sector bodies and also showcasing applications that have been created using the information available.

Use of our published data

On this page we publish data which is available in electronic format for you to re-use on your own website, in an application you create or for any other use you have in mind. All we ask is that you credit "Cumberland Council" as the source of the data.

All data listed below is released under the open government licence , usage of the data is subject to the conditions of this licence. Where data is provided under a non-commercial or chargeable license, we shall inform you. Please cite "Cumberland Council" as the source of the data.

The council no longer provides specific data on credit balances based on ICO decision notice FS50619844 (i.e. we are withholding the information under section 31(1)(a) of FoIA - Law Enforcement). In line with the aforementioned decision we consider that releasing the requested information into the public domain would allow potential fraudsters to use the data to identify business entities which were entitled to claim credits on their accounts. Once such a business had been identified, there would be a number of avenues open to the fraudsters to seek to obtain funds. We are satisfied that the prejudice being claimed is not trivial or insignificant and that there is the relevant causal link.

Whilst we wish to be as transparent as possible we must balance the legitimate interests in the public having access to the information, against the potential consequences of disclosure. As the total credit balance (as of 29/06/2023) was £272,382.71 we do not consider there to be a strong public interest in the disclosure of the information.

Cumberland Council

On 1 April 2023 local government in Cumbria changed, with Cumberland Council providing all your council services.

Don't worry though, your bins will be emptied as normal, and you'll still be able to speak to the same team about any enquiries to do with things like council tax, benefits, planning or any other service.
