Conservation areas Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

In 2016 we adopted a Conservation areas Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to assist in the formulation of new development and alterations proposed within the district's conservation areas which lie outside the Lake District National Park.

A Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) expands upon policy or provides further detail to policies in adopted Development Plan Documents (DPDs). When adopted, a SPD forms part of the Local Development Framework but does not have development plan status and are not subject to independent examination.

The Conservation areas SPD supports policies within the Allerdale Local Plan (Part 1), particularly S27 relating to heritage assets. It seeks to set out the considerations and thought processes that will be needed to achieve good design for new developments and alterations within the conservation areas, appropriate and sympathetic to their character and appearance.
