Planning Policy

The Planning Policy team is responsible for the planning policies that guide development in the area outside the Lake District National Park.

Cumberland Council inherited the local development plan documents of each of the former Councils including the Cumbria Minerals and Waste Local Plan documents.  These documents will continue to be used, in the relevant former Council areas, to decide planning applications until they are replaced by new Cumberland Local Plan documents. All current and emerging Local Plans and supporting documents are listed in the Cumberland consolidated policy document: Cumberland Consolidated Planning Policy Framework January 2023 445.2 KB
